About The Position

Switchboard Operator Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. Summary/Objective: The Switchboard Operator provides a combination of patient care duties and clerical/administrative duties in support of all departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior clerical experience and answering telephones
  • Work experience in a healthcare organization
  • Previous staffing/scheduling experience in a healthcare environment
  • Proven track record in providing exceptional customer service
  • Strong communications skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to hear well and speak clearly
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Pleasant telephone voice and manner required
  • Able to type 35 words per minute
  • Comfortable wording under minimal supervision
  • Use of MS Outlook, Word & Excel
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computer, fax, calculator, and copier
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record, if applicable
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Galen Medical policies, HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Pre-employment drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones, directs callers, and takes messages
  • Gathers patient information and prepopulates the patients health record
  • Register patients
  • Assist with Scheduling & rescheduling of office appointments
  • Page providers with Hospital Consults
  • Faxes provider visits to referring providers
  • Maintains current On-Call list
  • Periodically fill in for front desk or check out
  • Provide superior customer service to all patients and client providers and staff
  • Administrative and clerical duties as necessary
