Our Learn to Swim Program is the heart of our aquatic adventures, and we're looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join us on this exciting journey! As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you'll be at the forefront of our swim program, instructing lessons in accordance with Grapevine Swim Program lesson plans. Dive into a world of fun as you maintain class rosters, demonstrate skills, and ensure a safe, supportive environment for swimmers. Responsibilities

  • Instructs swimming lessons according to the Grapevine Swim Program lesson plans.
  • Maintains class rosters and checklists and take attendance on a daily basis.
  • Presents, demonstrates, and teaches material in one on one and small group situations.
  • Performs general housekeeping practices in the aquatic facility.
  • Performs administrative and aquatic services required at the facility, including scheduling and teaching swim lessons, supervising group activities, and helping with other aquatic programs.
  • Ensures the safety of class participants, supervises participant activities and Swim Lesson Aides.
  • Effectively interprets and implements the Grapevine Swim Curriculum and guidelines to match those of the department and exercise good judgment to ensure a safe environment for participants.
  • Attends all in-service training and continuing education as directed by the Department.
  • Works various shifts and provide support for other areas of the Parks and Recreation Department as needed.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 15.
  • Must be able to successfully demonstrate all skills for the level being taught.
  • Must be able communicate effectively with parents and youth.
  • Swimming instruction experience preferred.
  • Related pool operations or program experience preferred.
  • Current Water Safety Instructor from American Red Cross or equivalent certification as recognized and approved by the Aquatic Supervisor required prior to teaching any lessons.
  • All certification trainings are offered through the City of Grapevine.
  • Recertification can be obtained after being hired but prior to teaching any classes.
  • Certifications must be maintained during employment.
  • Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Swimming instruction experience preferred.
  • Related pool operations or program experience preferred.
