About the position

The SVP of Casualty Lines Claims at Argo Group is responsible for managing the entire Casualty sub-function of US Claims, which includes various claims types such as Construction Defect and General Liability. Reporting directly to the Chief Claims Officer, this role focuses on strategic management, team leadership, and operational excellence to enhance claims service and drive profitability. The position is pivotal in shaping short- to mid-term strategies and has a significant impact on the company's bottom-line results.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically manage teams to provide strong claims service and technical capabilities.
  • Communicate and influence senior leadership on strategic matters related to claims.
  • Create a culture of accountability, engagement, and performance within the claims team.
  • Partner with senior management to establish and refine best-in-class claim management programs.
  • Implement and monitor reserving and settlement policies.
  • Develop strategic and operational plans to achieve departmental efficiencies and meet company goals.
  • Provide guidance and direction to claims managers and professionals.
  • Participate in and approve decisions on reserving and settlement for high-value cases.
  • Establish working relationships with Business Unit leaders on claims-related issues.
  • Ensure performance objectives and metrics are in place for all positions in the department.
  • Support the claims selection process to retain skilled claims professionals.
  • Manage expenditures to budget and plan.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of ten years' experience adjudicating claims in Casualty lines.
  • At least five years' experience in a management role.
  • Thorough understanding of property and casualty underwriting and financial concepts.
  • Ability to develop corporate presentations based on metric-driven analysis.
  • Independent decision maker with strong judgment and courage.
  • Intellectual curiosity and client-focused approach.
  • Proven employee development, mentoring, and performance management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with clients and partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Polished written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPCU, ARM or other Insurance Institute coursework preferred.
