About The Position

This role will lead the sustainability effort for Children's Wisconsin, managing engagement and participation of committee members, guiding various areas of focus for sustainability. Additionally, this role will manage and ensure compliance with the hazardous material waste streams generated by all Children's Wisconsin facilities. Aligned with leadership approval, this individual will need to remove barriers and demonstrate improvement on programs and performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years technical experience in both hazardous materials management and sustainability leadership required
  • Knowledge and experience in performance and quality improvement processes
  • Ability to understand and navigate complete compliance requirements
  • Self motivated and driven for results
  • Ability to lead groups and teams to meet goals and objectives
  • Displays leadership skill in aligning and motivating people and groups to accomplish difficult objectives in a timely fashion
  • Trained in Six Sigma, Lean, PDCA or other process improvement methodology

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, quality or environmental sciences preferred

Responsibilities

  • Leads Children’s Sustainability Program which includes creating the programs vision and goals; defining roles and team structure; collecting, analyzing and reporting data and outcomes. Creates annual reports for Children’s Environment of Care (EOC) and Quality committees.
  • Manages all Children’s Wisconsin waste streams, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with municipal, state and federal requirements; setting and reviewing contracts on waste transportation and disposal; collecting data to measure performance; and regular reporting to Children’s leadership.
  • Engages in periodic auditing by an environmental consultant to validate alignment with requirements of municipal, state and federal requirements.
  • Oversees and supports Sustainability Management Plan. Leads collection of measurable data that aligns with the goals described in their team’s sustainability plan. Helps guide SMART goal development and ensures alignment toward overall sustainability goals.
  • Leads sustainability efforts through continuous process improvement; waste and energy reduction; labor and material savings initiatives; explores transportation alternatives; partners with Facilities and FP&D to ensure sustainable impacts are included in all condition assessments and future master plan projects; partners with MRMC to promote a sustainable and ecologically friendly campus; acts as the Children’s representative at MRMC sustainability meetings to support and guide campus initiatives; and ensures that Children’s complies with JCAHO requirements for continued certification as a “sustainable healthcare institution.”
  • Responsible for supporting Children’s energy savings projects using energy manager role and energy management plan, creating a “monthly savings report” used to identify potential funding sources for future sustainability projects, and presenting a report card to Children’s leadership quarterly.
  • Partners closely with Environmental Safety Officer (Facilities Director) and EVS Director regarding hazardous material handling and waste stream collection and disposal.
  • Maintains education and certifications necessary to meet requirements for all Children’s waste streams and compliance requirements. Manages, oversees and approves all yearly service contracts for waste stream disposal and compliance auditing.
  • Develops and recommends annual operating and capital budgets along with controlling expenditures within approved budget objectives.
