About the position
The Surveying Helper (Rodman) position at Weeks Marine involves assisting skilled craftspersons in various surveying tasks under immediate supervision. This entry-level role is designed for individuals looking to gain experience in the surveying field, performing manual labor and learning essential surveying techniques.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor related to surveying needs, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, and/or pins and right of way markers.
- Assist and learn the task of establishing elevations and or grades as required.
- Install or mark neatly elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman.
- Assist and learn to measure distances manually with survey chains using a plumb bob and maintain survey chains to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Learn to set up items associated with electronic measuring and sighting and perform these actions as needed.
- Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.
Requirements
- May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
- Field experience in chosen craft discipline.
- Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
- Able to meet all physical requirements.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required.
