About the position

The Survey Office Technician IV plays a crucial role in the Surveying & Mapping unit of the Public Works Department, responsible for creating survey maps, sketches, and exhibits using digital drafting software. This position involves performing survey calculations, creating and managing GIS databases, and converting CAD data into GIS products. The role requires a blend of technical skills in civil or survey drafting and GIS, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Create survey maps, sketches, and exhibits using digital drafting software.
  • Perform survey calculations for traverse adjustments and vertical network adjustments.
  • Determine property lines and sectional breakdowns for construction layout.
  • Create and populate Geographic Information System (GIS) databases.
  • Integrate spatial data and prepare GIS asset maps and reports.
  • Convert and extract Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drafting data into GIS products.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in civil or survey drafting or GIS data entry and map production.
  • Three years of college-level coursework towards a technical degree in Surveying, Engineering, CAD Drafting, GIS, Geomatics, or a closely related field.
  • One year of experience in CAD drafting or GIS input and mapping.
  • Two years as a Brevard County Survey Office Technician III.
  • Successful completion of all classes for all three phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program with a passing score on each examination.
  • A current performance evaluation score of 3.75 or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GIS software and tools.
  • Knowledge of Florida surveying laws and regulations.
