About the position
LewisGale Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Tech First Asst Cert to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a leading healthcare facility that values positive patient interactions and the well-being of others. The Surgical Tech will be responsible for maintaining a sterile field, assisting the surgical team, and ensuring quality patient care in the operating room. The role requires flexibility to cover staffing needs and participate in on-call assignments. This is a full-time position with rotating weekends.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.
- Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
- Assists the surgical team in opening up items for case, cleaning rooms in between cases, and putting up unused supplies.
- Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care.
- Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.
- Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
- Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
- Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.
- Serves as a professional member of the OR team.
- Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and inservices.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years operating room scrubbing experience.
- High school graduate.
- Graduate of an approved Certified Surgical Assistant Program.
- Virginia surgical assistant license.
- Certification as a Surgical First Assistant required within six months of hire.
