About the position

The Surgical Technologist position at CHRISTUS West facility involves performing a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients. The role includes maintaining aseptic techniques, providing comfort and support to patients, and preparing the Operating Room for surgical procedures. The position requires training at existing CHRISTUS facilities prior to the new facility's opening in March 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all processes related to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance in the OR prior to and during surgical procedures under the direction of a professional nurse.
  • Proficiently scrub in 3 specialty areas including Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics, etc.
  • Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card to pull cases and set up the OR, ensuring preference cards are kept up to date.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient, cooperating in team planning and execution.
  • Maintain a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adhere to Universal Barrier Precautions for patient and personal safety in all patient care situations.
  • Monitor and control the surgical environment, maintaining proper traffic control and adherence to OR sanitation policies.
  • Familiarize with facility policy regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
  • Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and care methods to accommodate the unique needs of each patient served.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited LVN/LPN program is required.
  • 2 or more years of experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
