About the position
The Surgical Technologist position at Shriners Children's in Portland, OR, is a full-time role focused on providing quality individualized patient care during the surgical experience. The role encompasses responsibilities during the intraoperative, preoperative, and postoperative phases, ensuring a sterile environment and effective use of surgical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures.
- Provide necessary equipment and supplies for surgeries.
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instruments counts accurately.
- Provide visualization of the operative site during procedures.
- Independently pull cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists.
- Update and review equipment lists, making necessary changes.
- Review cases and equipment prior to the start of each surgical case.
- Be scrubbed in and have equipment ready before the patient arrives in the OR suite.
- Verify the efficacy of equipment and maintain accurate records of operations and sterilization.
- Familiarize with proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of all OR equipment.
- Attend in-service training on new equipment and complete competency evaluations.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology.
- Surgical Technologist certification (CST).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by start date, through American Heart Association only.
- 1 year of experience as an OR scrub.
- COVID-19 Vaccination.
