About the position

The Surgical Tech First Assist PRN position at HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe involves providing high-level surgical assistance in a collaborative environment. The role focuses on ensuring patient safety and quality care during surgical procedures, while also fostering teamwork among medical staff. This is a per diem position, allowing for flexible scheduling based on the needs of the hospital and the availability of the surgical tech.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Operating Room Surgeons and staff to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Communicate continuously with the surgeon about the patient's condition during operations.
  • Assist the circulator and anesthesia provider in preparing the patient and the OR suite, including tasks like Foley catheter placement and tourniquet application.
  • Gather necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures as needed.
  • Deliver quality patient care and promote a positive image of the department.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and adaptability, serving as a resource to the Surgical Services team.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist certification program from an accredited institution or equivalent medical graduate qualifications.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist is required.
  • Certification as a Surgical First Assist is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist is required.
  • 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assist is preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Level II Trauma Center or similar high-acuity environment.
