About the position

ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the General Surgery Team at the Cecil Campus in Elkton, MD. This role involves serving as the Team Lead, providing both operative and non-operative care for surgical patients, and collaborating closely with surgical attending physicians. The position emphasizes working at the top of the candidate's license in a first responder capacity and includes administrative responsibilities such as managing clinical activities and supporting the development of Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Team Lead for the General Surgery Team.
  • Provide operative and non-operative patient care for surgical patients.
  • Assist in the operating room for acute general surgical patients.
  • Oversee day-to-day clinical activities including APC schedule and staffing.
  • Manage timecards, expense tracking, and conflict resolution.
  • Coordinate APC onboarding and orientation, ensuring competency and documentation.
  • Facilitate clinical learning opportunities for APC students, including preceptorships.
  • Support the growth and development of APCs through quarterly check-ins.
  • Facilitate team huddles and communicate updates effectively.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop and monitor quality performance metrics.
  • Act as a resource, role model, and mentor for all APCs.
  • Assist clinical leader or APC leader with additional duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master's degree program as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or completion of a Physician Assistant program.
  • License or license eligible in the states of Maryland and Delaware.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • Surgical or inpatient experience preferred.
  • RNFA certification preferred.
