About The Position

This role is within the Operating Room at Blodgett Hospital, a Level 3 trauma center with 15 operating rooms in the Corewell Health System. The unit is a center of excellence for bariatrics and total joints, with a case mix including total joints, elective spine, General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, and ENT surgeries. The environment is high-tech, featuring 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, Mazor, and Stealth technology. The OR team operates collaboratively, with Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Surgery Support Staff working together to care for patients and support surgeons and anesthesia providers. The team also acts as patient advocates during anesthesia, requiring precise, critical thinking within time constraints while prioritizing cost-effective quality care and patient safety. Blodgett Hospital itself is a community and teaching hospital with a history of compassionate care, offering inpatient and outpatient services.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of relevant experience
• Patient Care Preferred
• 1 year of relevant experience in Operating Room Preferred
• AHA or ARC American Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 Days of hire required

Nice To Haves

• Associate's Degree in related field
• Anesthesia Technician Certification (Cer. A.T.)

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation, delivery and clean-up of patient care during the intra-operative phase.
• Contributes to the smooth operation of the unit.
• Obtains and organizes necessary equipment, sterile supplies and instruments for each surgical case.
• Assembles surgical supplies for rooms and case tables.
• Opens sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Cleans equipment (including decontamination and sterilization of instruments), work areas and reusable supplies and returns unneeded equipment to appropriate department.
• Follows-up on equipment needing repairs.
• Sets up anesthesia machines and runs tests to ensure the air is flowing correctly.
