About the position

The Surgical Assistant plays a vital role in an elite oral surgery practice, providing exceptional patient care and supporting surgeons during procedures. This position is essential for ensuring the best clinical outcomes and maintaining high standards of service for both patients and referring doctors. The role involves a variety of patient care and office duties, contributing to the growth of the practice and the well-being of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during procedures by handing instruments and suctioning.
  • Complete documentation related to patient care.
  • Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
  • Verify the identity of patients and operative sites.
  • Discuss the nature of the surgical procedure with the surgeon, including operative consent and methods of exposure.
  • Monitor and maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.
  • Maintain an unobstructed operative field using surgical retractors, sponges, and suctioning equipment.
  • Determine the availability of necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures.
  • Obtain and inspect sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment, supplies, and instruments.
  • Operate sterilization devices and monitor patient intraoperative status.
  • Obtain dental radiographs and dental imaging.
  • Complete patient clinical narratives.

Requirements

  • At least one year of related experience preferred.
  • DAANCE certification preferred.
  • Licensed dental assistant preferred.
  • BLS certification required or the ability to complete within 1 month of hire.
  • Radiology certification preferred.
