About the position
The Surgery Scheduler at Kansas City GI & Hepatology Research plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive high-quality and efficient care. This position involves clerical expertise to manage scheduling, documentation, and coordination of surgical procedures, while also supporting the overall patient experience. The ideal candidate will be passionate about patient care and will work collaboratively with the medical team to streamline operations and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Obtain CPT and ICD-10 diagnosis codes and other clinical information for patient treatment.
- Prepare documentation for Notification of Non-covered Medicare Services or Advance Beneficiary notices.
- Determine O.R. time needed for procedures and coordinate scheduling with the Facility.
- Ensure all requirements for procedures are confirmed with the Facility, including medical records and necessary equipment.
- Ensure scheduling packets are correct and timely.
- Obtain patient face sheets from Insurance Verification for necessary authorizations.
- Collect necessary physician and practice fees associated with procedures.
- Verify physician credentialing at the Center or Facility before scheduling patients.
- Coordinate provider clinic and Facility schedules, including awareness of provider commitments.
- Refer conflicts and procedural questions to the Practice Manager or designee.
- Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
- Cross-train as backup to other business office positions as requested.
- Maintain surgery logs or other required practice or case tracking logs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office setting, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center, hospital, or doctor's office.
- BLS Certification may be required as per practice standard.
