About the position

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgeries and procedures for patients, ensuring they are informed about preoperative requirements and providing education regarding their surgical care. This role involves interaction with patients, physicians, and clinic staff to facilitate the scheduling process and maintain accurate patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule surgeries and procedures and follow-up appointments as designated by physicians according to established policies and procedures.
  • Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely, and responsive information.
  • Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
  • Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment, and surgical materials.
  • Provide patients with generic preoperative information sheets and advise them of preoperative surgical requirements.
  • Submit patient clinical and financial information to the facility assuring appropriate medical records release, when necessary.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls in a courteous manner, and record messages for physicians and other clinical staff.
  • Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete.
  • Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner.
  • Perform other related duties as directed or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology.
  • Intermediate understanding of medical insurance and billing.
  • Ability to work independently, attention to detail, and able to multitask efficiently.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to remain focused and organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous surgery scheduling experience (preferred)
