About the position

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southern Plains Region, Anadarko Agency, Division of Natural Resources in Anadarko, Oklahoma. The role involves serving as the Supervisory Soil Conservationist, planning, directing, and coordinating a comprehensive agency-wide soil and moisture program and land operations programs. The selected employee will be responsible for providing technical guidance in initiating, planning, directing, and coordinating all phases of the soil conservation program on trust/restricted lands within the region. The position requires occasional travel, and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Supervisory Soil Conservationist planning, directing and coordinating a comprehensive agency-wide soil and moisture program and land operations programs.
  • Furnish technical guidance in initiating, planning, directing, and coordinating all phases of the soil conservation program on all trust/restricted lands within the region.
  • Provide guidance and works with agency and tribal governing bodies to assess actions that may be of major significance involving trust responsibility and affecting the quality of the human environment as defined by NEPA.
  • Serves as agency technical adviser and expert on all land management operation related activities.
  • Serves as the Agency Environmental Quality Coordinator.
  • Serves as the Agency Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator responsible for coordinating GIS activities at the agency level.
  • Conducts and coordinates environmental activities with other Federal and State agencies and organizations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Degree in soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering.
  • At least 30 semester hours in a natural resource or agricultural field, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science.
  • Specialized experience GS-12: At least 1 year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience advising tribal members on soil and moisture conservation programs.
  • Experience coordinating activities beneficial to Indian people and their trust properties.
