About the position

The Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is responsible for managing a diverse range of communication efforts, including media engagement, digital communications, public outreach, and crisis communications. This role involves leading a team to achieve organizational goals while fostering an inclusive workplace and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The position is a temporary promotion opportunity, not to exceed two years, with the potential for extension or permanent placement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage change within and outside the organization.
  • Establish and implement an organizational vision in a changing environment.
  • Lead teams towards meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Provide an inclusive workplace that fosters development, cooperation, and conflict resolution.
  • Achieve organizational goals through high-quality decision-making and risk analysis.
  • Manage human, financial, and information resources strategically.
  • Prepare and defend budget and manpower requests for communication goals.
  • Build coalitions with federal agencies, state and local governments, and other organizations.
  • Oversee official Agency spokespersons and manage audiovisual equipment for communications.
  • Assist in developing and implementing comprehensive communication plans.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform a full range of supervisory duties including work assignment and evaluation.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in planning and managing major outreach programs.
  • Expertise in strategic messaging, client management, internal communications, and public engagement.
  • Experience in developing detailed plans, tasks, milestones, and schedules for programs/projects.
  • Ability to plan diversified public information programs using mass media and public speaking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis communications and media relations.
  • Knowledge of NASA's procedural requirements and communication standards.
