About the position

The Supervisor of Smelter Operations - Acid Plant is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the assigned work unit within the Miami smelter and rod plant. This role involves supervising staff, implementing production plans, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. The position requires a blend of operational expertise and leadership skills to manage daily activities and address any issues that arise in the production process.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, coordinates, and controls the operation of an assigned work unit.
• Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff for the assigned work unit.
• Implements production plans according to the approved schedule.
• Participates in daily operational duties, performing the most difficult tasks as needed.
• Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifying problem areas and directing remedial action.
• Conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
• Prepares estimates of staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities.
• Maintains an inventory of parts and materials.
• Approves purchases of materials and equipment; maintains reports on time, materials, and equipment use.
• Requisitions tools, supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Trains staff in safety procedures and maintains safety data sheets for crews.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in a technical mining-related discipline with at least one (1) summer internship experience in a mining or industrial environment.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
• Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods, and procedures needed to complete projects.
• Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Acid Plant control room operation proficiency.
• Extensive experience with the ECC LOTOTO process.
• Experienced in Acid Plant process equipment troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of work orders, incident reports, environmental reporting, and area inspections.
• Chemical handling experience on an industrial scale including but not limited to Sulfuric Acid, Caustic Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Sodium Silicate.
