This position holds a higher level of supervisory responsibility within the School Police Department's chain of command. It requires advanced knowledge of law enforcement techniques, methods, and principles, gained through specialized training, education, or experience. The role involves directing subordinates by planning, organizing, and coordinating work with internal and external stakeholders. A key aspect of this position is the ability to understand human behavior and factors influencing behavioral changes, particularly with youth and adults in a school environment. The position demands autonomy and sound judgment in determining procedures and standards. Police lieutenants are essential employees responsible for responding to situations 24/7 and are expected to initiate and apply procedures based on policy and experience. The work environment can include offices, schools, or field work, and may involve hazardous situations. Diverse supervisory responsibilities may include command of the civilian staffed communications center, civilian clerical support staff, police recruiting, equipment acquisition and distribution, Police Sergeants, Police School Safety Officers, Night Patrol Officers, Background Investigators, Criminal Investigators, School Safety Assistants, and other areas as assigned by the Executive Director of School Police.
