About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor at Coastal Alabama Community College is responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance personnel while also performing maintenance activities. This role ensures the upkeep of campus facilities, vehicles, and grounds, prioritizing safety and efficiency in all operations.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and prioritizes maintenance work orders.
• Schedules maintenance and repair of campus assigned vehicles with passenger safety as the ultimate objective.
• Ensures upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, fixtures, furnishings, and equipment.
• Ensures that air conditioning and heating systems are functioning properly and controls are set correctly.
• Maintains proper lighting levels in all campus buildings, including offices, classrooms, and hallways.
• Ensures all outside lights are functioning properly.
• Supervises daily work schedules of maintenance, custodial, and work-study personnel.
• Manages leave requests, purchase orders, and maintenance records for the department.
• Inspects the campus daily and supervises litter clean-up.
• Supervises ground maintenance staff or contractors for landscaping tasks.
• Keeps drains open under sidewalks and clears fallen branches from campus.
• Lubricates, checks oil, and water on equipment daily before use.
• Periodically cleans all parking lots.
• Uses mature judgment in emergency situations.
• Supervises the setup of equipment for special events.
• Eliminates hazardous situations for students, employees, or visitors.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent recent relevant full-time work experience (two years of experience for every one year of college).
• Three years of related experience.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Current and valid driver's license.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Strong customer service skills, specifically calm and friendly service.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle, tractor, and standard office machines.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and stressful situations.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• Industry certification in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, or similar fields.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints.
• Ability to calculate percentages and fractions.
