About the position

The Supervisor of Laboratory Quality Assurance at Mayo Clinic is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of a Quality System within the laboratory. This role involves ensuring compliance with CAP, CLIA, and FDA regulations, guiding staff on quality-related matters, and serving as the primary contact for audits and inspections. The Supervisor will also mentor and manage Quality Assurance Specialists and Coordinators, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve quality goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance or interpretation of rules/regulations and develop responses to agencies under the direction of the Lab Medical Director.
  • Implement and sustain a Quality System to ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and FDA regulations.
  • Act as the point person for audits and inspections, ensuring all procedures and policies are in place.
  • Monitor the document control system for accurate and timely documentation of laboratory procedures and policies.
  • Conduct internal inspections to assure compliance and effectiveness of quality systems.
  • Recommend process changes to the leadership team based on quality assessments.
  • Direct and influence personnel toward quality goals through outstanding human relation skills.
  • Collaborate with Consultants and Allied Health Staff within and outside the Department of Lab Medicine & Pathology.
  • Mentor, delegate, and manage the Quality Assurance Specialists and Coordinators.
  • Identify, analyze, evaluate, and solve quality problems within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Medical Technologist or equivalent, based on specialty.
  • MT (ASCP) Certification or equivalent required.
  • State of Florida Laboratory Supervisor's License required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory compliance requirements for OSHA, CAP, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Quality Management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems is helpful.
