As an Environmental Supervisor at MercyOne, you will under the general direction of the Director of Environmental Services, are responsible providing effective leadership, guidance and supervision of the daily functions of Environmental Services. The Supervisor plans, assigns and monitors colleague work performance in order to achieve efficient and effective departmental operations. Assists the Director with development and implementation of policies and procedures that facilitate daily operations, safety and cleanliness and are in accordance with all applicable Mercy Medical Center policies and procedures, Joint Commission (TJC) standards, state and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for staff scheduling, performance evaluations, training programs and assists with the disciplinary process. Provides leadership and supervision for the department resulting in effective teamwork, colleague engagement and a safe work environment. Serves as a role-model for Environmental Services staff and as a resource for other staff on procedural matters. Serves as a working supervisor. Performs supervisory functions in a thorough and efficient manner using resources of time, supplies, equipment and instruction to continually improve the quality of work performed. Assists with the hiring, scheduling, placement, training, evaluations and disciplinary actions. Effectively supervises the day-to-day activities of the Environmental Services department by establishing staff work schedules, monitoring workload, and staff assignments. Ensures that staff are efficient and effective in cleaning duties. Adjusts staff to changing and/or varied workloads. Provides/oversees orientation and thoroughly trains staff in safe hospital housekeeping techniques and use of equipment. Delegates work tasks to appropriate staff. Evaluates supply needs and orders supplies as needed. Monitor meeting room set-ups. Responsible for routine unit inspections after discharge cleaning and daily room cleaning to assure that hospital quality standards are met. Corrects deficiencies in a timely fashion. Routinely performs rounds of all areas to note opportunities for improvement and equipment/facility needs. Ensures that all equipment is safe, clean and in proper working condition. Requests or complete repairs and maintenance of building or equipment as necessary. Submits repairs orders as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience of 3-5 years in environmental services/housekeeping.
  • 1-2 years in a leadership/supervisory role.
  • Hospital setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper and safe chemical use and handling.
  • General working knowledge of computers and department specific software helpful (i.e. HealthStream, Word, Excel, Outlook; internet/intranet).
  • Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Formalized training in environmental cleaning programs and safety methodology preferred.
  • Associates degree preferred.
