About the position

The Summer Voyagers Camp Counselor II is responsible for the supervision and safety of children ages 8-13, providing basic instruction, and planning and leading enrichment activities and games. The position is seasonal, running from June 9 to August 9, 2025, with hours from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Counselors will attend staff training sessions, plan and lead program activities, ensure the safety of campers, communicate effectively with caregivers, and maintain camp equipment. Additional responsibilities include completing written reports and addressing any issues that arise during camp.

Responsibilities

  • Attend staff training sessions (up to 10 hours) scheduled for late May or early June.
  • Plan and lead the instruction of program activities and games for camp participants.
  • Ensure the safety of individuals in camp.
  • Supervise campers in assigned groups during camp and on field trips.
  • Communicate effectively with caregivers regarding participant progress and behavior.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings as directed by the camp director/program manager.
  • Ensure proper dismissal of participants to caregivers using the approved attendance method.
  • Care for and maintain camp equipment and storage areas.
  • Complete written reports such as accident and incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with supervisors about any problems or issues needing special attention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program coordinator, camp director, or assistant directors.

Requirements

  • At least 1 summer experience working in a camp setting.
  • At least 6 months cumulative experience working with children ages 6-13.
  • At least 1 year of participation in a team or club sports team.
  • At least 16 years of age or older by the time of employment.
  • First Aid/CPR certified or able to obtain certification prior to start date.
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
