About The Position

Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) is seeking a Temporary SUN Activity Leader to lead fun and engaging classes for elementary-aged students in areas such as arts & crafts, sports, academic enrichment, and STEM. The role involves designing, planning, and teaching hands-on activities within a safe and positive learning environment. MFS aims to help people move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequity, and social isolation through social innovation and prevention-focused programs. This position is a temporary, part-time role with MFS, working directly with students, school staff, and the SUN Site Manager.

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching elementary-aged children and creating lesson plans.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting.
  • Independent, self-motivated, creative, and resourceful.
  • Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cooperative manner and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
  • Demonstrate excitement in working with children.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm about working in an inclusive environment which serves children of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-age children and strong behavior management is a MUST.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States (documentation will be required for I-9 form).
  • Basic English proficiency is required (must be able to read, write and speak English).
  • All employees must submit a criminal background check.
  • Participants are expected to attend all three weeks of the program; exceptions may be made for illness or other approved events.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and teach class activities that are engaging, age-appropriate, and connect to academics, recreation, and/or the arts.
  • Supervise groups of 12-15 students, maintaining school-appropriate decorum and ensuring safety during daily routines, transitions, and activities.
  • Record and submit student attendance daily.
  • Maintain classroom and school rules to ensure student safety.
  • Communicate frequently with the SUN Site Manager regarding individual student progress, successes, concerns, and overall class development.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff, and custodians.
  • Adhere to school and agency policies.
  • Protect student confidentiality.
