About The Position

Beacon College offers on-campus summer programs that go beyond the classroom to provide a transformational experience for students who learn differently. Through immersive learning, supportive coaching, and real-world experience, students gain skills to help prepare them for life after high school that they will carry with them long after the program ends. To support our student participants, the Summer Programs Mental Health Coordinator oversees the emotional well-being of students as well as clinical interventions related to mental health emergency situations in the College Edge and/or Summer for Success summer programs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in one of the following fields: Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or Psychology.
  • Must hold one of the following licenses: Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Psychologist, Certified Mental Health Professional (CMHP).
  • 2–4 years of experience working with children/adolescents, preferably in: Summer programs, Special education settings, Behavioral health or neurodiverse populations.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FERMA, FERPA, and the Florida Baker Act.
  • Specialized training in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and/or other learning disabilities.
  • Certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid, or comparable training.
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and trauma-informed care practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff in person, on the phone, and over e-mail.
  • Exceptional time and organizational skills with a systematic approach to managing tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and patient approach when working with students, parents, and other Beacon College community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Availability and willingness to participate in evening and weekend on-call duties and respond to emergencies. Hours are subject to different factors including, but not limited to, enrollment, occupancy, emergencies, and other departmental needs.
  • Strong ability to remain composed and maintain a clear focus during high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner to oversee clinical interventions and student emotional needs on campus during the current summer program.
  • Supervise and support the success of the Social Emotional Coach.
  • Lead a College Living-Lab appropriate for the summer program participants, based around healthy relationships, boundary setting, emotional self-care, and mastering college relationships.
  • Participate in one (1) off-campus field trip during each weekend of the summer program duration.
  • Provide on-call support for clinical mental health emergencies and other mental health related situations.
  • In the weeks/month prior to the summer program kick off, participate in pre-program training.
  • Attend and participate in staff training sessions as well as all other assigned staff meetings, prior, during, and before summer programs.
  • Attend and participate in professional development opportunities to gain familiarity with the Beacon College community, program policies, instructional expectations, and student support strategies.
  • Participate in Orientation Day, including but not limited to, welcoming incoming students and families, introduction of program components, and fostering a sense of belonging and safety within the College community.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all program policies, expectations, and procedures.
  • Model professional conduct, representative of our expectations for students and staff throughout the duration of the program.
  • Document student progress and engagement daily, or as directed, contributing to program evaluation efforts and supporting individualized student interventions.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to support the overall success and integrity of the summer program.
