About The Position

As a Summer Advantage IRead Dual Teacher, you are responsible for implementing the summer IRead program in the morning as outlined during pre-program professional development. You will be expected to review individual scholar data and align whole group and small group lessons to the needs of scholars. As an afternoon enrichment teacher, you will be responsible for creating an engaging 5-week enrichment course that stems from your own hobbies and passions and introduces a unique and engaging offering to our summer scholars. On Fridays, IRead Dual Teachers will travel and support Friday field trips, college visits, and service-learning projects.

Requirements

  • Valid State Teaching Certification required; Early Literacy Endorsement or atleast 25 hours completed from the Early Literacy Endorsement Verified Professional Development Programs
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Previous classroom experience required
  • Ability to create lesson plans for enrichment offering
  • Availability is required for the full summer program period, including completion of all pre-program responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to implementing the SA program model with fidelity.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing the summer IRead program and assisting scholars in growing academically through whole group lessons and utilizing data to inform small groups while focusing on the specific needs of the scholars in your assigned class
  • Creating and executing an engaging afternoon curriculum, the curriculum must be approved by the program manager
  • Providing guidance and oversight to Teacher Assistants to ensure they are fulfilling the expectations of their position
  • Managing and setting up the classroom prior to program launch – including displaying classroom rules and expectations
  • Managing scholar behavior and discipline in the classroom
  • Monitoring student progress and connecting with scholars’ parents and/or guardians mid-way through the program to share that progress
  • Adjusting enrichment course and lessons if it is not engaging based on assigned scholars
  • Planning a presentation, aligned with the enrichment offering, for our closing celebration
