About the position

The Summer Day Camp Director at KE Camps is responsible for overseeing the camp operations at a specific country club location, ensuring a fun, safe, and memorable experience for campers. This role involves managing a small staff team, planning daily activities, and maintaining communication with campers' families. The Camp Director is expected to infuse creativity into the camp program while being supported by the KE Camps Year-Round Office.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a group of campers to provide a fun, safe, and exciting camp experience.
  • Supervise daily swim time in a hands-on manner from within the water, as needed.
  • Work with and supervise counselors in a supportive manner.
  • Assign counselors to specific tasks and manage their performance.
  • Complete and submit daily and weekly administrative tasks electronically.
  • Greet families and campers upon arrival and orient them to camp.
  • Establish rules with campers and staff and review emergency procedures.
  • Manage parent expectations by knowing your campers and conversing with parents at pick-up and drop-off times.
  • Plan daily camp schedule and activities.
  • Shop for camp supplies, staying within the supply budget provided by KE Camps.
  • Prepare activities in advance.
  • Manage any issues that may arise including camper behavior issues and parent complaints.
  • Check in with the KE Camps Office to update them on your camp and any issues you may be encountering.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • CPR Certification
  • First Aid Certification
  • Lifeguard Training (not required but preferred)
  • Public speaking skills
  • Mid-level swimming experience
  • Experience working with children in a leadership position
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team
  • Ability to guard the health and well-being of campers at all times
  • Ability to make decisions and adjust plans in real-time
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, dependable, consistent, level-headed, flexible, and calm in all situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Willingness to become CPR/First Aid certified before the summer begins
