About the position

The Summer Conservation Crew Member position at the Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC) is a full-time, seasonal role focused on engaging young individuals in conservation service projects across the Appalachian region. Crew members will participate in various outdoor projects, including invasive species management and trail maintenance, while camping and working in diverse weather conditions. This entry-level position emphasizes teamwork, learning, and community building, providing valuable experience in environmental conservation and resource management.

Responsibilities

• Participate in outdoor conservation projects including trail construction, habitat restoration, and invasive species management.
• Camp overnight at project sites and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Engage in heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects.
• Collaborate with crew members and leaders to plan meals and complete necessary chores while in the field.
• Set personal goals and participate in performance evaluations throughout the service term.

Requirements

• Must be between the ages of 18 and 30 (exceptions for veterans up to age 35).
• Must have US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency status.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must pass background checks including the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal/State criminal background check.
• No previous experience required, but comfort in outdoor settings is helpful.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience with outdoor work or conservation projects is beneficial but not necessary.
