The Inclusion Camp Counselor at Jewish Silicon Valley (JSV) plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and supervision of campers, particularly those with special needs. Under the guidance of the Youth & Camp Director and the Inclusion Coordinator, the counselor will be responsible for a 1:1 participant, ensuring their inclusion in all camp activities. This position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment, where campers can thrive in their social and recreational development. The counselor will actively facilitate camper development through outdoor recreation activities, social skills enhancement, and promoting values such as multicultural awareness and environmental consciousness. In addition to supervising their assigned camper, the Inclusion Camp Counselor will serve as a role model for the rest of the cabin, demonstrating positive behavior management techniques, enthusiasm, and patience. The counselor must creatively adapt activities to meet the specific needs of their buddy, ensuring that all campers can participate fully. This includes understanding and implementing individualized behavior and care plans, as well as assisting general camp counselors in adapting materials and activities to be inclusive. The counselor is expected to maintain a positive attitude, adhere to camp policies and procedures, and communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress. Attendance at mandatory staff meetings and pre-camp training is required, and punctuality to all work assignments is essential. The effectiveness of this position will be measured by the successful implementation of purposeful programs that align with JSV's strategic goals, fostering a positive working environment, and contributing to the overall mission of the camp.
