About the position
The Substitute Teacher 1 position at the Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility involves instructing incarcerated youth in academic or career-tech subjects. The role requires developing lesson plans tailored to individual student needs, providing remedial instruction, and conducting ongoing assessments of student progress. The teacher will also participate in institutional treatment activities and maintain classroom resources. This position is crucial in supporting the educational mission of the Ohio Department of Youth Services, which aims to rehabilitate youth and empower families and communities.
Responsibilities
- Instruct incarcerated youth in assigned academic or career-tech subjects.
- Develop lesson plans based on student needs and approved courses of study.
- Provide individualized remedial instruction to students with severe behavioral challenges.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and document results.
- Counsel students regarding their academic and behavioral progress.
- Maintain classroom equipment and prepare budgetary proposals for educational resources.
- Participate in institutional treatment activities and other school activities as required.
Requirements
- Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher Certificate/License appropriate for grade level and area of specialization.
- Baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement for Substitute Teacher 1.
- Must successfully obtain Teacher Certificate 9-12 or License prior to employment.
