About the position
The Substitute Special Education Paraprofessional will assist teachers in providing support to students with special needs in a classroom setting. This role involves promoting positive behavior, ensuring a safe learning environment, and working closely with students who require emotional and academic support. The position is part-time, with the potential for full-time hours based on performance and availability.
Responsibilities
- Promote positive behavior interventions for at-risk students.
- Recognize and celebrate student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers to support positive student behavior in the classroom.
- Supervise students to maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
- Assist special education students individually or in groups on various skills and activities.
- Demonstrate skills and techniques to aid in student learning.
- Monitor student behavior and enforce classroom standards and policies.
- Provide support through de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Complete Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training.
Requirements
- Arizona Fingerprint clearance card
- 6 months of experience working with individuals who have behavioral issues
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years or older
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in computer operation
- Valid Substitute Teaching Certification license
