About the position

The Substation Technician B position at Pike Electric, Inc. is a full-time, non-exempt role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems. The technician will work with high and low voltage systems, requiring a solid understanding of substation operations and safety protocols. This role involves significant physical labor, including working at heights and in confined spaces, and may require travel to various locations, including other states, depending on customer demands.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment/systems.
• Work with concrete foundations, ground grids, and steel erection.
• Handle buswork (high and low voltage) and airbreak/hookstick switches.
• Manage control cable terminations and control buildings.
• Install capacitor banks and transformers, regulators, and circuit breakers.
• Maintain company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working condition.
• Work safely with energized high voltage systems.
• Coach subordinates on the crew and communicate effectively with customers and team members.

Requirements

• 4-6 years of continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment.
• Ability to perform rigorous physical labor and work at heights up to 125 feet.
• Possession of a Commercial Drivers' License.
• Capability to lift in excess of 50 lbs and work in confined spaces.
• Operational experience with various types of heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, backhoes, and excavators.
• Knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, and applicable codes.
• Ability to interpret substation structural drawings and communicate technical information.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with routine carpentry work on building wood concrete forms.
• Familiarity with safety rules and policies in construction environments.
