About the position

The Software Developer in Test position at Ford is part of a student worker program aimed at engaging students in the automotive industry. This role focuses on embedded systems, where the intern will design, develop, and maintain automated tests for embedded software products, ensuring quality and reliability in automotive software solutions. The position offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to work alongside industry innovators, contributing to significant projects that redefine mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for embedded software components.
  • Contribute Python scripts and libraries to enhance the test automation framework.
  • Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve bugs and issues.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing feedback on testability and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to triage nightly regression failures.
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP32, or other embedded devkits.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or other relevant languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automotive diagnostic tools and testing environments.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., Classical CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Knowledge of sensing and measurement principles, including analog and digital sensors.
  • Comfortable working with electrical wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
