About the position

The Student Veteran Career Counselor will support military-connected students at Penn State by providing tailored career services, coaching, and counseling. This role aims to empower student veterans and servicemembers as they transition to post-education endeavors, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and opportunities for career development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily activities of the Student Veteran Career Services Program and coordinate program activities with all campuses and external entities.
  • Create, manage, and deliver career service programs and services, ensuring schedules and deadlines are met.
  • Provide individual and group career coaching and counseling to military-connected students.
  • Assist students in translating military experiences into qualifications that resonate with employers.
  • Guide students in the career search process, including job searching, application support, resume reviews, and mock interviews.
  • Plan and execute tailored career workshops for military-connected students.
  • Engage with military-friendly businesses and alumni to solicit mentoring and career opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with or knowledge of military culture and families.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in career counseling or coaching.
  • Familiarity with job market trends and employer expectations.
