About the position

The Student Success Coach (SSC) at Covenant College plays a vital role in supporting students' academic and personal development. This position focuses on discipleship, academic success coaching, and the implementation of educational programming aimed at enhancing student retention and success. The SSC will work closely with students, particularly those facing academic challenges, to foster an environment that promotes holistic growth in various aspects of their lives.

Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with students identified with potential retention concerns, including those on Academic Probation and those with Provisionally/Limited Load Accepted status.
  • Coach students in time management, effective study strategies, communication, and academic organizational skills.
  • Create and implement Academic Recovery Plans for struggling students.
  • Assist in providing Individualized Academic plans and support for students receiving academic accommodations.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the Testing Center and manage the work study team.
  • Develop and present workshops on reading strategies, study skills, test taking, time management, and note taking.
  • Participate in research activities to identify underprepared students and improve persistence and timely graduation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students, staff, and faculty through campus events and organized programs.
  • Perform exit interviews with students who do not intend to return and assist with re-recruiting efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Success on the vision and implementation of the Center for Student Success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in education, educational psychology, psychology, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young adults.
  • Strong administrative and leadership skills with high organizational capabilities.
  • Energetic and tenacious personality with the ability to motivate students and creatively solve problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Training or experience working with learning differences and disabilities.
  • Experience working with academically at-risk college students.
  • Preferred experience in Student Development or a related field in Higher Education.
