About The Position

This posting is for an unpaid student placement. The Student-Speech/Language Pathology is an unpaid student placement that a college student is completing to receive academic credit through their college/university. This student is responsible for providing speech/language therapy to children and clients whose ability to function is impaired by congenital or developmental disability, physical illness or injury, as determined through examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, prognosis and interventions for the highest functional outcomes, under the direction of a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist.

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a four year college or university and studying Speech/Language Pathology Communication Disorders

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech/language therapy to children and clients whose ability to function is impaired by congenital or developmental disability, physical illness or injury.
  • Conduct examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, prognosis and interventions for the highest functional outcomes, under the direction of a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist.
  • Display thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of speech/language pathology.
  • Adhere to the standards of clinical practices established by the American Speech-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Conduct evaluation of therapy needs.
  • Administer speech/language based standardized assessment tools and use clinical skills to determine therapeutic needs of clients.
  • Participate in the creation of treatment plans and revision of if necessary.
  • Conduct speech/language therapy as mandated on the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
  • Collaborate with other team members or those individuals designated by the agency (e.g. family members, teachers, therapists, consumers, etc.) to facilitate comprehensive treatment.
  • Record on client charts all appropriate speech/language therapy evaluations, progress notes, consultations and discharge information.
  • Submit daily notes, quarterly reports and annual reports as requested by the agency.
  • Document and complete all paperwork required by college/university to verify participation and completion of supervised experience.
