About the position

The Student Services Center Advisor position at Adelphi University is a full-time role focused on supporting student recruitment and retention through comprehensive advising on financial aid, registration, and student accounts. The advisor will assist students and their families in navigating the financial aid application process, understanding federal, state, and institutional aid programs, and managing student account billing and payment processes. This position requires a commitment to providing excellent customer service and support to students throughout their educational journey at Adelphi University. As a one-stop advisor, the individual will engage with students and families both in-person and virtually, addressing a high volume of inquiries via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions. The advisor will participate in outreach initiatives, including outbound phone call campaigns, to assist prospective and current students with their financial aid inquiries. This includes explaining application processes, eligibility criteria, and the awarding and disbursement of funds, as well as discussing payment options for tuition and other expenses. The advisor will also be responsible for reviewing and assessing students' financial aid and billing histories, advising on financial aid and academic appeal processes, and assisting with course registrations and exceptions. Additionally, the role involves collecting and reviewing necessary documentation, processing payments, and engaging with other departments to ensure a seamless experience for students and their families. The advisor will conduct workshops and events to promote financial literacy and support students in understanding their financial obligations and options. This position is on-site at the One-Stop Student Services Center in Garden City, New York, and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders within the university.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a one-stop advisor for students and families concerning financial aid, billing, and registration.
  • Counsel students and families in-person and virtually, responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Assist prospective and current students with financial aid inquiries, explaining application processes and eligibility criteria.
  • Discuss payment and financing options for tuition, residential life, and health insurance expenses.
  • Inform students of outside scholarship opportunities and assist with financial aid appeals.
  • Answer inquiries about course registrations, transcripts, degree audits, and graduation processes.
  • Advise students on student loan applications, repayment options, and default prevention.
  • Collect and review financial aid and student account forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review and process daily refunds in accordance with guidelines, and process payments made in person or by mail.
  • Engage with other departments to ensure a seamless process for students and parents.
  • Conduct workshops and events to promote financial literacy and support students in understanding their financial obligations.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Associate's Degree (Bachelor's Degree preferred) and/or 1-3 years of experience in financial aid, student accounts, cashier, registrar, or student service in a higher education environment.
