About the position

The Store Manager Candidate position at Dollar General is designed to support the Store Manager in executing store processes effectively. This role focuses on employee supervision, inventory management, and customer service, while also preparing the candidate for future advancement to the Store Manager role. It is a temporary position aimed at developing external candidates for management responsibilities within the store.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Participate in store merchandising, including staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise.
• Assist in inventory management and conduct inventories.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Act as a role model by adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds in the designated bank.
• Maintain financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe store environment.
• Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Review operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for expense control.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and inventory management practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and organization skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred.
