About the position

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining and preparing surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring they are sterile and ready for use in surgical procedures. This role involves cleaning, wrapping, and sterilizing instruments, as well as managing the central supply of sterile items. The technician plays a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and ensuring high standards of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain instruments and equipment in optimal condition.
• Prepare instrumentation, sterile supplies, and OR/RR equipment for surgical patients.
• Assist with turnover time in the Operating Suite.
• Clean, wrap, and sterilize instruments.
• Wrap, identify, and autoclave all instruments, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
• Keep supplies orderly on central supply shelving.
• Maintain an adequate supply of prepared or 'made up' supplies.
• Assist co-workers with daily preparation for the next day's schedule.
• Participate in quality improvement activities related to safety and infection control.
• Demonstrate competency in performing job tasks and operating equipment annually.
• Attend and participate in surgery center training and development workshops.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prefer two years of satisfactory previous employment in central sterile processing.
• CPR certification.
• Knowledge of microbiology, sterilization procedures, and aseptic technique.
• Ability to set priorities and work independently.
• Ability to interact positively and communicate well with patients, families, and co-workers.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a surgical or healthcare environment.
• Additional certifications related to sterile processing.
