About the position

The Sterile Processing Technician, Non Certified, plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment at Denver Health. This full-time position involves working under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager and Shift Supervisor, ensuring that all sterilization processes meet established standards and protocols. The technician is responsible for decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing instruments, while also providing excellent customer service and supporting the orientation of new staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, assembles, and sterilizes equipment, supplies, and instruments.
  • Decontaminates surgical instruments using steam autoclaves and Plasma low temperature sterilization equipment.
  • Performs high-level disinfection of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintains hospital service behaviors with Trust, Respect, and Excellence.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new staff members.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow AAMI/AORN standards and manufacturer instructions for equipment usage.
  • Reports discrepancies within the safety arena, such as sharps or damaged equipment.
  • Performs collection and distribution of instrument sets and equipment duties for serviced departments.
  • Practices sound safety and infection control measures in all job duties.
  • Maintains quality control observations with all equipment and systems utilized.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 0-1 year of sterile processing experience.
  • Knowledge of hospital safety hazard protocols including universal precautions and body mechanics ergonomics.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards in decontamination, assembly, and sterilization work areas.
  • Ability to maintain departmental documentation duties including electronic records maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sterile Processing Microsystems.
