About the position

The Sterile Processing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Room Services, ensuring effective instrument reprocessing functions including collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and distribution. This role involves managing equipment needs, inventory supplies, and supervising staff to maintain compliance with company policies and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Surgery Center Clinical Manager in the operation of the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Onboard new employees and manage the hiring process.
  • Supervise staff performance and attendance, ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Participate in employee relation matters, including corrective actions or terminations.
  • Oversee the efficiency of sterile processing operations and ensure quality goals are met.
  • Implement transitions of duties within the department and communicate workflow concerns to the OR coordinator.
  • Maintain continued education and proficiency in Sterile Processing operations and equipment.
  • Serve as a technical expert on product reprocessing, decontamination, and sterilization.
  • Demonstrate correct processes and procedures to staff.
  • Ensure quality control and assurance of all Sterile Processing activities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and supply issues, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safe handling of chemicals and waste.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • 5 years of sterile processing experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years in an acute or ambulatory care setting.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of contamination control methods and surgical instruments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills required.
  • Certified Sterile Processor Certification required and must be maintained.
  • BLS certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Orthopaedic surgery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and/or federal survey and accreditation processes preferred.
