About the position

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources is seeking a District Manager to oversee the management of state trust lands, ensuring optimal revenue generation while adhering to stewardship practices. This role involves managing approximately 424,000 acres of state trust lands, focusing on ranching, wildlife habitat management, and resource conservation. The District Manager will represent the State Land Board in negotiations and develop program recommendations. The position requires a passion for natural resource management and a commitment to intergenerational stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of real property assets to achieve business and financial goals.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans aligned with the agency's mission.
  • Represent the agency at meetings with lessees, elected officials, and community organizations.
  • Supervise the District Assistant and District Resource Specialist.
  • Prepare and present final decision requests for review by the State Board of Land Commissioners.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience in the management of large working and/or production landscapes.
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to seven (7) years, including management of large working landscapes.
  • Acceptable degrees include Bachelor's or Master's in Natural Resources, Range Management, Animal Science, Agriculture and Resource Economics, Land Planning, Environmental Science, or closely related fields.

  • Knowledge of range management practices and carrying capacity.
  • Experience with public speaking and presenting.
