About the position

The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating services for Medicare recipients in Cecil County. This role involves providing unbiased insurance counseling, advocating for beneficiaries, and connecting them with community services. The coordinator will also manage a volunteer pool and conduct outreach to ensure seniors and individuals with disabilities receive necessary support.

Responsibilities

• Provide confidential/unbiased insurance counseling to Medicare beneficiaries.
• Advocate on behalf of beneficiaries to help them resolve Medicare and related health insurance issues.
• Recruit, train, and manage a volunteer pool to provide services to Medicare beneficiaries.
• Provide information regarding County services available to seniors and individuals with disabilities, including employment, safety, finances, nutrition, transportation, housing, health, and others.
• Assess needs of clients, arrange services, and follow up to ensure that needs are met.
• Establish staff outreach sites outside of County senior centers.
• Conduct home visits as directed.
• Maintain working relationships with other agencies and resource providers, both public and private.
• Gather and record statistical data regarding program use.
• Provide educational presentations to seniors and their caregivers on available services.
• Report to work as scheduled or directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in gerontology or related field.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in providing human services information, working with a senior population, or in a related field.
• Possession of a valid Class 'C' non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points.
