About The Position

The Metropolitan Opera seeks a highly qualified and experienced AGMA Opera Stage Manager to join our Stage Management team. The ideal candidate will become an integral part of a tightly knit department and demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, creative thinking, and excellent interpersonal and diplomatic communication in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. The ability to multitask effectively and manage responsibilities across multiple productions simultaneously is essential. Calmness and kindness under pressure are important. Primary Responsibilities Collaborate closely with stage, artistic, and technical staff to produce high-quality work on tight timelines. Perform a range of stage management duties, including calling performances as lead SM, assisting by running the deck, calling follow-spots, or providing coverage as required. Run rehearsals with careful attention to schedule constraints, contracts, breaks, and artistic goals. Generate and maintain clear, accurate paperwork to ensure the smooth operation of all productions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of Stage Management experience in an opera company.
  • Must read music fluently.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • High attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating instructions to large groups.
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, manage stairs without handrails, work on uneven surfaces, and read in low-light conditions.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs., hear, listen, and read.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the New York City area.
