About the position

Inova Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Float Med Surg to join their Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool in Dunn Loring, Virginia. This full-time position offers a night shift and provides the opportunity to work across various units within the medical/surgical and telemetry departments. The RN will be responsible for delivering safe patient care, managing treatment plans, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
  • Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Supports and empowers patient/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs of patients and intervenes to maximize patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
  • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
  • Evaluates the outcomes of documentation and contributes to related performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assists staff with assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and leads other disciplines to meet desired outcomes.
  • Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others, has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines and uses an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes.
  • Keeps informed of unit initiatives and incorporates the outcomes of team or committee work into practice.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members.
  • Identifies own learning needs and develops professional goals, seeks opportunities to obtain education to enhance practice, collaborates in the development and implementation of educational plans for identified needs, and reviews self-development plan and professional goals.
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of Acute care RN experience.
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS or other advanced certification required within 6 months.
  • RN licensed, or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a RN.
