The Staff Nurse position at Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is a part-time role focused on providing comprehensive nursing care to inmates at Bayside State Prison. The nurse will utilize the nursing process to address the physical, mental, and emotional health needs of the resident-patients, ensuring effective and compassionate care within the correctional environment. This role involves collaboration with healthcare professionals and security personnel to deliver quality healthcare services to a diverse inmate population.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of the resident-patient.
- Performs assessments of resident-patients in various settings including intake areas, health care units, and emergency situations.
- Works collaboratively with healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
- Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives, implementing prescribed interventions for identified problems.
- Plans nursing care based on assessments and makes timely referrals, initiating appropriate nursing care as per institutional policies.
- As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other healthcare team members and guides the provision of care.
Requirements
- Less than High School education required.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
