About the position

The Staff Nurse I position at the University of Illinois Chicago is a part-time role focused on delivering quality patient care in a stepdown unit. The nurse will utilize the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model to improve patient outcomes and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. This role involves direct patient care, developing care plans, and advocating for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and updates the patient's plan of care based on ongoing assessment and family input.
  • Shares information and collaborates with other healthcare team members to promote effective patient care.
  • Verifies and implements orders from healthcare providers and documents accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engages with patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.
  • Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to support personnel and provides feedback.
  • Advocates for patients, families, and the nursing profession.
  • Integrates theoretical knowledge and evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned.
  • Collaborates with other nurses to provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
  • Serves as a preceptor and resource for nursing and support staff.
  • Takes responsibility for continued professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certification and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent attendance and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Additional certifications such as ACLS.
