About the position

The Staff Nurse position in Adult Psychiatry at the John Pappajohn Pavilion involves providing nursing care to adults experiencing psychiatric symptoms. This role is critical in a state-of-the-art inpatient unit designed to support patients with mood disorders, thought disorders, and co-occurring intellectual disabilities. The position requires working weekend nights and involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to adult patients with psychiatric symptoms.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, physicians, and social workers.
• Implement behavior management plans supported by psychology professionals.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.

Requirements

• An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, or a Master's Degree in Nursing is required.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa by date of hire.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, and team members.
• General computer skills are required.

Nice-to-haves

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
• Active enrollment in a BSN program if Baccalaureate degree is not yet obtained.
• Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired.
