About The Position

Hatch is seeking a Staff Mobile Engineer to serve as a technical leader and contributor for their mobile code that powers their connected sleep ecosystem. This role involves leading engineering development for their iOS and Android apps, which keep millions of devices functioning in homes. The ideal candidate thrives in environments of rapid learning and delivery, is self-motivated with strong ownership and self-direction, and understands the business goals to drive engineering solutions that provide customer value. As Hatch utilizes AI-assisted development, this role is expected to ramp up quickly, use AI fluently, and deliver broadly across mobile systems. The Staff Mobile Engineer will work across Mobile, partnering closely with Product, to lead feature development, set technical direction, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

6+ years of experience building mobile apps.
Experience with Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose.
Care about code quality, reliability, and creating great user experiences.
Experience leading by example—writing production code, unblocking others, leading architectural decision-making, and helping teams make smart, pragmatic decisions.
Experience mentoring other engineers.
Experience building trust and creating environments where people do their best work.
Thrive in cross-functional spaces—partnering with Product, Design, and other engineering leaders to turn ideas into reality.
Communicate clearly and lead with empathy.
Genuinely excited about what AI unlocks.
Experience with modern mobile tooling, CI/CD, testing, and cloud services.
Eager to explore new technologies, tech stacks, and approaches.

Responsibilities

Serve as a technical leader and contributor for mobile code.
Lead engineering development for mobile apps (iOS and Android).
Ship meaningful code to production.
Lead delivery of features.
Jump into production issues or improvements.
Debug cross-platform problems spanning mobile/firmware/backend.
Build context on how the full mobile platform fits together.
Contribute meaningfully to team initiatives, shipping features, improving platform reliability, and driving daily app engagement.
Understand problem spaces, partner with stakeholders to shape architectural problems and solutions.
Bring proposals to Mobile Strategy and Engineering Forum meetings.
Provide feedback and support for other engineers.
Work closely with Product, Design, QA, and other stakeholders to scope, plan, and rapidly ship features.
Champion AI-assisted development practices within the team.
Drive business strategy through mobile initiatives.
Shape the roadmap across the mobile organization.
Serve as a critical evaluator and implementor of the AI strategy.
Help define what "good" looks like for AI integration and onboarding.
