About the position

The Nevada Court of Appeals is seeking a skilled Staff Attorney to provide objective legal analysis and advice, contributing to the judicial decision-making process. This role involves working on a variety of civil and criminal appeals, conducting legal research, and drafting memos and proposed dispositions to assist the Judges. The position offers the opportunity for professional development and may allow for a hybrid remote/in-office schedule after an initial training period.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to advise the Court on pending matters.
  • Prepare clear and concise orders and opinions to resolve legal issues in assigned cases.
  • Interact with Judges, law clerks, and other staff attorneys to discuss legal matters and ensure informed decisions.
  • Proofread and edit written work products of other staff attorneys and judicial law clerks.
  • Stay current with recent developments in the law and consult with fellow staff attorneys as needed.
  • Attend professional development training to expand legal knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with the Division Director on special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an ABA-accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Nevada is necessary for advancement.
  • Coursework in advanced legal writing and research is desirable.
  • Participation in Law Review or other law journals is preferred.
  • Prior legal experience, particularly in criminal law, is preferred.
  • One to three years of appellate experience is preferred.
